The Sunday Million Anniversary Tournament marks 20 years of poker's most famous Sunday fixture, and it arrives in a Phased format built to suit players who cannot always clear their diary for one long session.
Two decades in, this old thing has earned its own birthday candles, and it is doing nothing quietly about the occasion.
Instead of one single sitting, the event splits into two stages: Daily Heats (Phase 1) feed into the Finals (Phase 2). Players from all over the world take their seat in the Heats, and survivors carry their chips forward to the Finals.
Bets, Payouts & Rules
The structure is straightforward once the two phases are clear:
- Daily Heats (Phase 1): the opening stage of the tournament, running on the schedule until 6 September.
- Finals (Phase 2): the concluding stage, reached by players who finish Phase 1 with chips still in front of them.
- Reaching the end of a Heat with chips is the requirement for advancing. Finish a Heat without chips and that particular Heat run ends there.
- A deep run inside a Heat can also reach the paid places, separately from advancing.
- Players may enter as many Heats as they wish across the schedule, but once qualified for Phase 2 (Finals), no further Phase 1 entries are permitted.
Entry routes include the standard Daily Heat entry, satellites, and Special Edition Spin & Go's that award Heat tickets. Tickets awarded through a promotion must be used in the event itself, as they expire otherwise.
Features & Bonus Rounds
Daily Heats
The Heats spread the qualifying stage across the calendar, so a seat in the Finals (Phase 2) can be earned on a day that suits the player rather than one fixed Sunday slot.
Special Edition Spin & Go's
These have turned up in party hats for the anniversary, awarding Sunday Million 20th Anniversary tickets and satellite tickets among their outcomes, all decided at random.
Satellites
Satellites run alongside the schedule as another qualifying route, awarding Sunday Million 20th Anniversary satellite tickets.
Taste & Feel
There is a reason the Sunday Million has stuck around for 20 years. It is the fixture the poker world sets its weekend around, and the 20th Anniversary gives it the air of a national holiday.
The Phased format gives the whole thing a tournament-series feel: quieter Heats through the week, then the Finals where the surviving stacks from every corner of the globe land in the same lobby.
Twenty candles, one final table. Have a wander through the schedule whenever the mood takes you.
